Tiamat is an alien weapon capable of destroying a planet. She has been loosed on Earth twice: first around 2000 BCE when she was stopped by Marduk; then again in 2015, when she was stopped by the Team, with Aquagirl sacrificing her life in the process.[1]

Physical appearance[]

Tiamat is an extremely resilient and adaptable entity, and is capable of taking on a new form and coming back after defeat. Three forms have been observed.

In her first form, Tiamat appeared as a large, glowing blue water construct above her well. She had an overall serpentine appearance, with the head and cowl of a cobra, but with a longer, lizard-like snout, heavy brows and ridges over the top of her head.

In her second form, she appeared as a massive reptilian creature. Her upper body was almost as wide as her well, with her lower half obscured beneath the water. Her body was covered in scales of various shades of teal and grey. She retained the dragon-esque head from her first form, but now had a number of dark horns protruding from the top and sides of her head and the sides of her face, as well as down the sides of her chest. She gained a pair of huge arms, ending in hands with three fingers and an opposable thumb, with all digits ending in sharp claws. A pale fin protrudes over each shoulder.

In her third form, she retains the overall appearance of a humanoid dragon, but is now much smaller, standing roughly twice as tall as the average human. The fins on her shoulders are now gone, replaced by a pair of large, translucent wings. Her legs end in four-toed feet, with a claw on each toe. She has a thick tail, roughly the same length as her torso. She wears armor in this form, with the appearance of brown leather, covering her shoulders, upper torso, lower arms, legs and the tops of her feet.[1]

History[]

Early life[]

Around the second millennium BCE, the alien Tiamat was set loose on Earth to end the conflict between chaos and order by destroying the world. The gods of Mesopotamia, not wanting the status quo to be challenged, chose the demigod Marduk to battle her. Wielding the power of lightning and rain, and the Tablet of Destiny, Marduk defeated the alien creature and locked her away, but gave his life in the process.[1]

The Light hoped to free Tiamat and used the Team to their ends. Aquagirl was kidnapped and taken to Marduk's Temple, where Klarion oversaw the ritual to revive the monster. It was successful, and Klarion got his prize, the Tablet of Destiny. Nightwing and Alpha Squad were left to battle the monster, which manifested in giant water spouts before revealing herself in all her winged glory. The Team managed to defeat her the same way Marduk had done in legend: by self-sacrifice. Aquagirl forced Tiamat back in the pool and allowed the temple to crash down on them.[1]

Powers and abilities[]

Tiamat can take on multiple forms, each with different abilities.

First form:

  • Hydrokinesis:
    • Water spouts: Tiamat is able to summon many spouts of water to cover large areas of the ground, knocking down anyone nearby.[1]
  • Invulnerability: Tiamat is invulnerable except when she takes a moment to recharge her power.[1]

Second form:

  • Breath attack: Tiamat is able to project a powerful beam from her mouth.[1]
  • Invulnerability: Tiamat is largely invulnerable to damage in this form, with her arms as her only weak point.[1]
  • Super strength: Her huge arms have immense strength, allowing her to sweep her arms and hit half the room.[1]
Tiamat minion

One of the elemental minions summoned by Tiamat in her third form.

Third form:

  • Flight: Tiamat gains fully functional wings in her third form.[1]
    • Dive attack: Tiamat can charge herself with dark blue magic energy while in mid-air and then dive down on her enemies to devastating effect.[1]
  • Hydrokinesis:
    • Water spouts: Tiamat does not summon as many spouts as when in her first form, but they now shoot much higher into the air.[1]
    • Elemental minions: She is able to summon a number of water elementals as minions. They have reptilian heads, a pair of arms like Tiamat's, with the lower body of a snake. When they are defeated, Tiamat is able to summon more easily.[1]
  • Invulnerability: In her third form, Tiamat is invulnerable to damage much of the time. It took considerable teamwork for the Team to bring her into a position where they could harm her.[1]
  • Super strength[1]
