Lucas "Snapper" Carr was a teacher at, and later principal of, Happy Harbor High School. In his youth, he was familiar with Mount Justice and the Justice League and remains an ally of the League and the Team.

Physical appearance[]

Lucas Carr is a Caucasian male with brown hair and bangs, which cover most of his forehead. He also has blue eyes and a soul patch beneath his lower lip. His normal attire is composed of collared shirts underneath a jacket, in addition to blue jeans, shoes, and a belt.

By 2018, his soul patch had grown into a full beard. It was shaved off in 2020.

History[]

Early life[]

Lucas Carr went to Happy Harbor High School.[4] In his teens, Snapper was an associate of the Justice League, having met them during their first adventure,[5] and had full access to Mount Justice. His carelessness, however, led to the discovery of the Cave by the Joker[6] in 2006.[7] After invading the cave and subduing Carr, Joker set a trap for the League: a large surprise giftbox. When Flash went to open it, it burst open with monkey clowns. Carr was desperate to help and make up for his error, and tried to fight the Joker against Batman's protest, but was easily taken down by the clown. The exact resolution of the encounter is unknown, but Carr and the Leaguers all survived.[8]

Years later, Snapper Carr became a civics[9] teacher at Happy Harbor High School.[10]

Mister Carr broke up what could have become a fight between Conner Kent and Mal Duncan. Later in class, he discussed the current political state of Rhelasia. He was impressed by the knowledge Conner Kent displayed of the nation's history, as well as his question as to why it was divided.[10]

During the Team's "alien invasion" training scenario, Carr, along with the rest of the students and faculty hid below the school's underground bunker and watched the Team's speech about how they would win and build from what they've lost, after the Justice League had been killed.[12]

When the Reach's Magnetic Field Disruptors (MFDs) threatened Earth with destruction, Snapper Carr was pressed into service by the Justice League. After the heroes agreed on a course of action, Snapper served as mission coordinator. From his post on the Watchtower, he coordinated operations as forty heroes, divided into twenty squads, simultaneously destroyed twenty MFDs scattered around the globe. The operation went smoothly, which led Carr to gleefully express his jubilation at the success.

However, the heroes missed an MFD site, and discovered its presence belatedly when conditions on Earth failed to improve. Only through the timely intervention of the Flash and Impulse, as well as Kid Flash's sacrifice, was disaster averted.[15]

In late June,[16] Lucas attended Wally West's funeral.[17]

2016-2018[]

Lucas began renting out the apartment above his garage to Conner and Megan after they graduated college.[18]

Lucas was present as Dick, Artemis, Jeff and Conner discussed Brion Markov and Halo's futures. He suggested they join the Team as they had powers, but Artemis and Dick noted powers were neither a requirement nor a guarantee of joining. After Conner expressed concern about the possibility they could be brainwashed and not know it, Lucas admitted that you didn't need to be brainwashed to spill secrets, as he knew from personal experience.

They were interrupted by the sound of Brion practicing with his powers. They went outside to help. Lucas was distressed to see his apple trees get burned.[19]

Lucas hosted a farewell barbeque for Conner and Megan, with the rest of the Team year zero crew as guests, and Forager as "larvae-sitter" for the children. Despite some setbacks with the refreshments, Lucas was able to keep the party on track. It was interrupted when Lucas's guests left on a mission to save a Bowhunter Security guard from Task Force X, but they soon returned with more guests.[18]

Lucas brought Bethany her coffee as she prepared to take the kids to school, still remarking on their new marriage. Both noted how unusual their lives had become, as Megan and Conner prepared to leave for their wedding on Mars aboard the Bio-Ship.[24]

Lucas officiated Conner and M'gann's wedding after getting ordained online the night before. He made the ceremony short in case another supervillain attacked. He was the announcer at the reception. He was surpised when Icicle Jr. caught the bouquet and M'gann and Conner decided to have their first dance 16 feet in the air, and confused when something stole the wedding bouquet.[25]

Appearances[]

Background information[]

  • Snapper Carr originally appeared as a junior member of the original Justice League. He primarily acted as the team's mascot and monitored the JLA computers for the team. He would later appear off and on over the years in bit-parts, until eventually returning as a mentor for the original comic book version of Young Justice.
  • The adult Lucas Carr was designed by Jerome Moore, who based the design on Noah Wyle's character in the film Donnie Darko.[26]
  • Young Justice marks Snapper's second animated incarnation. He previously was a recurring character in the Bruce Timm animated series Justice League, where he was a television reporter voiced by Jason Marsden.
