Sensei was peacefully meditating on the deserted island, when Brion Markov, Halo and Forager stumbled upon him. Brion was searching for his sister, who supposedly had been taken by the League of Shadows. Sensei quickly informed Brion he would not find his sister there, but the prince was not convinced and pressed on. So, Sensei teased and mocked him, prompting Brion to attack. Sensei fought back, quickly warding off Brion and Forager. He grabbed Halo and held her in a neck lock. When shed tried to use her powers, Sensei swiftly snapped her neck. In a fit of rage, Brion hurled more lava at him while the Super-Cycle opened fire. Sensei dodged their attacks and summoned Ubu and a red-hooded ninja to his aid. They neutralized the interlopers and threw them in a prison cell.

In a monitor room, Ra's al Ghul and Sensei watched as the dead Halo came back to life. Sensei could not explain what they were seeing, reassuring his master that he had felt her life draining from her body. Soon enough Nightwing and other heroes rescued their prisoners, so Sensei and his henchmen intercepted them, intending to punish their trespass. A fight ensued and Sensei came close to stabbing Superboy with an X-Ionizer-forged sword, only to be thwarted by Miss Martian. The skirmish was put to an end when Ra's intervened. Sensei lashed out at Brion when he addressed his master disrespectfully.[3]

Sensei silently sneaked behind Cheshire, who was skulking around the castle looking for him. He confronted her and she immediately attacked him. Sensei easily dodged her swings, disarmed her and finally knocked her down. He asked what she was doing there and she confessed wanting to kill him, so as to terminate the contract put on her life ever since she betrayed the Shadows to save Red Arrow.[8] Sensei proceeded to tell her that the islanders were not longer associated with the Shadows or the Light. He went on to chastise her lack of judgment, just as Talia al Ghul walked in. After trading insults, Cheshire received a notification and made a run for it. As she was escaping, Sensei bellowed at her that she had come there to die and invited her to return when she was ready to live.[9]

She had come to attack Sensei once more, an apparent suicide mission, but was stopped by the arrival of Tigress and her team. After Cheshire and Onyx discussed their issues and how they had found family in the Shadows, Sensei admitted that engendering the sense of family was a manipulation tactic to create loyalty. As he was no longer part of the Shadows, Sensei offered the women help to recover from their experiences with the Shadows, an offer backed up by Ra's al Ghul. They accepeted, and later Sensei and the Red Hooded Ninja knelt with them in meditation.[10]
