At the Markovburg Children's Hospital, Simon Ecks told Otto that his sister had died of a heart condition after a donor could not be found.[4]

Later, Otto was told he suffered from the same condition, but that it could be treated. This was in fact a ruse, he had tested positive for the Meta-Gene and was abducted to be activated, just as his sister had been. He became Plasmus, and a control chip was used to make him servile. Unlike his sister, he was kept by the Bedlam Syndicate rather than being trafficked out.[2]

After Count Vertigo found Superboy and Black Lightning snooping around Bedlam's lab, he sent Plasmus to capture or kill them. Lightning was able to escape, but Plasmus brought Superboy back to Vertigo.[3]

Plasmus found Lightning and Tigress sneaking into the lab and attacked them. After Bedlam's agents were forced into retreat and their lab was destroyed, Vertigo boom tubed to Nightwing's team with Ecks and Plasmus. Plasmus (temporarily) killed Halo during the ensuing fight, but Lightning was able to destroy his control chip, and Plasmus switched sides. With Vertigo forced to flee once more, it seemed the fight was over, but Plasmus was shot dead by a bystander, believing Otto was a monster.[2]

Powers and abilities[]

  • Incendiary touch: Plasmus burned anything he touched, including vegetation and flesh.[3]
  • Malleability: Plasmus's body is made up of molten protoplasm, and he can deploy it from his body with relative ease.[3]

Appearances[]

Background information[]

  • In the comics, Plasmus was a super-villain whose body melts anything it touches. Beginning as a miner in Germany, he was accidentally exposed to radioactive elements. General Zahl saved his life by turning him into a monster, and recruited him to the Brotherhood of Evil. This made him an enemy to the Doom Patrol and Teen Titans.
  • This is Plasmus's third animated appearance. He appeared in Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go!.
