This Friday at 9pm eastern time, StarKid Productions (who brought you A Very Potter Musical, A Very Potter Sequel, and Starship) will be premiering on their YouTube channel their newest production, "Holy Musical B@man!"
Q: In the tie-in comic, Dick's narration is that his uncle can't take care of him, and that's why Bruce took him in. Can you elaborate on the specific nature of his uncle's injuries? Is he comatose, mostly paralyzed, something else?
Issue #6 was released in July, the question was from October. It's a contradiction, true, but Weisman never said to refer to the issue in his response.
Yes. But in the issue itself, it's stated that he is paralyzed for life. Check it. Same page, one frame earlier. Bottom box: "My mother and father dead. My aunt and cousin dead. My uncle alive but paralyzed for the rest of his life."
Greg chose not to comment on the matter (likely because it's a spoiler request) but that does not mean the info from the comic is suddenly incorrect.
Then wouldn't he have just said to check the issue, considering it was all ready out? He's done that for other questions when the answer came from the comics.
I'm not saying the comic is necessarily wrong, but his answer here just seems odd to me. Maybe something changed between the comic's release and his answering the question and they just never caught it? Guess we won't know for sure until Uncle Rick finally appears on the show (pretty sure one of Weisman's responses alluded to it).
The official material (comics and show) trumps Ask Greg. This is the YJ Wiki, not the Ask Greg Wiki. If it's turns out to be a mistake, we'll cross that bridge when we have to. Until then, a canon source says what it says, so we stick with it. It's not like Greg doesn't forget or misreads things in his posts (Wonder Woman's age).
It trumps it unless Greg specifically states that it is an error, which is not the case of Rick Grayson. As for Wonder Woman's age, he didn't remember to have said she was 90 and he admitted it could be an error, but either way, her age was never stated on canon, so until then he can change his mind how many times he wants. This is not the case of Rick, which is canonically binding until Greg states otherwise. Starlight Keyblade is reading too much into Greg's non response.
Then why are we using Ask Greg as a resource at all if we're just going to ignore it? For all we know, the response reflects a change that we won't know about until AFTER the episode airs. Can't we just find some sort of a compromise so we don't drive ourselves crazy with this?
In addition, I have to agree with anon, if we're to take source material as fact, then Superman has powers that he isn't supposed to have, according to Greg. So right there, the comic is wrong.
It's hard enough on newbies getting the hang of the resource system without us telling them that a source we've been using as reliable is no longer to be used as such. It's not fair to them, and it makes us look like hypocrites.
Well, on the note of looking like a hypocrites, I strongly advise against sock puppetry as a way to garner support (yes, admins can read deleted posts).
As for the matter at hand, I'll reiterate what I said further above: canon trumps Ask Greg unless he specifically identifies an element as being erroneous. If he says Superman doesn't have super breath then we make a note of that on the issue page where he used it. Whereas for Rick, he didn't say anything. You are assuming that his lack of response means a change in the storyline, while we see his lack of response as a... lack of response. Word of God is just that, but he needs to use it. Merely because he didn't confirm Rick's status, it can't be read as denial either. He also has given the same answer to the latest inquiries about Zatanna's age. Doesn't it mean he changed his mind since his first response?
We do not interpret the subtexts of his replies, or lack thereof. We merely reproduce them. If he didn't refute Rick's condition, then we stick with what we have in the meanwhile: canon.
Okay, first of all, don't presume you know the situation. The above anon comment was NOT Starlight. We happen to be BFFs and roommates. She's off celebrating her birthday right now, and I happened to be using her computer after she logged off her account, but for some reason, it registered as her, so I deleted it and switched onto my computer to repost the comment so she wouldn't get pissed at me (which she will be now when she reads all this, so thanks for that) and people would know it wasn't her.
As for the Zatanna vs. Rick comments on Ask Greg, I would think that there is a difference between NO COMMENT and ASKED AND ANSWERED. One states that it's an issue he can't address due to spoilers, while the other says that he all ready gave a concrete answer. Plus, let's not forget that while canon is important, Greg is still the source of authority, being a producer and all.
And you making a point of it does not change the fact that the comic, according to the producers, was wrong. Hence why it ended up under "goofs." So until we hear otherwise, whether it's within the show itself or Greg addresses it himself (don't know what the unanswered questions in the line up cue are off the top of my head), then I am of the mind that there could very possibly be another mistake somewhere.
All excellent points, Thailog, and my opinion is that we should just wait until we have more information before we jump the gun here. But to be perfectly fair, that anon isn't the only one who has encountered the whole "computer resisters account rather than anon" thing. It's happened to me to a couple of times now (not here, but elsewhere). So it's not unheard of, at least not for me.
ROFLMAO What a maroon! She didn't even notice the ID number! Oh God, that's freakin' hilarious! She may be my best friend, but she doesn't have much in the common sense department!
I'm so sorry about her, you guys. My friend likes to be argumentative. And, yes, she wasn't allowed on my computer (no one is at the moment without me being in the room due to the fact that I just had to clean out a wicked virus and I don't want a relapse). Me: I'm quite the opposite. I was quite happy to put this matter to rest.
So, yeah, I think that's all for this thread. It's just not worth it anymore. Let's just go back to waiting for the show's return on March 3rd and forget all this.
