As Sharon Vance guided the tour, Kent expressed his concern that the Reach's efforts could put local farmers out of business. On the Kent farm, Jonathan and Clark were busy working on the tractor until Martha called everyone inside for dinner and told the boys not to keep them waiting. However, the mood changed when Jonny asked if Conner would be joining them. Jonathan and Clark looked at each other with a saddened expression, realizing that Jonny did not understand the truth that Conner had died.

Jonathan and Martha watched as Clark and Lois explained to Jonny about Conner's death, including the meaning of both life and death. Jonathan remained silent and shed a tear over the loss of Conner as Martha further explained that once their own lives eventually ended, they would see him again someday.
