Mal Duncan stopped by to see Karen Beecher, hoping to take her on a date. She had to finish work with Dr. Palmer first, but the experiments took longer than anticipated and he returned home.[2]

Doctors Palmer and Cross, with help from Bumblebee and Impulse, tried to separate Jaime Reyes' scarab by going into his body. It ultimately failed because the scarab's defenses proved too tough.[3]

Mal met up with Karen for a date on campus, but she was distracted by a giant spaceship visible in the sky.[4]

While driving, Malcolm Duncan and Karen Beecher were discussing their lack of a Meta-Gene, when Karen's water broke. They drove to Ivy University Hospital in an intensifying snow storm.

At Ivy University Hospital, Karen gave birth to a daughter, but the baby had a heart problem. Left without a surgeon due to the snow, Karen had her Bumblebee suit brought from Dr. Palmer's lab and she shrank down and went into her daughter to perform the procedure. Afterward she considered giving her daughter the Meta-Gene.[5]

Violet Harper moved into their dorm, with help from Harper Row. Harper admitted she had feelings for Violet. That night, Violet called Harper, asking to meet up.[6]

Background information[]

  • Ivy Town is the hometown of the second and third Atom, Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi. A vibrant university city, it has been placed alternatively in Connecticut (at the mouth of the Housatonic) and the Finger Lakes area of New York State (on the location of Ithaca, the home of Cornell University).
