Bishop Beluga is a high ranking cleric and emissary of the Atlantean kingdom of Xebel.

Physical appearance[]

Beluga resembles a Caucasian male teen with the tail of a whale. He is slightly overweight, and has brown hair shaved off of his temples. He has blue eyes, and wears a blue tunic with two strips of fabric hanging down the front of his gray tail. He also wears a gold belt with a green trident on the buckle.[2]

By 2020, Beluga, in his position as bishop, has updated his outfit to reflect this. He now wears a blue and purple Atlantean pontifical vestment, complete with a purple mitre with gold trimmings on his head, and purple fabric streaming from it along his front and back.[3]

Bishop Beluga arrived to represent Xebel at the Conference of Delegates the day after the opening ceremony. Beluga was unable to speak, as he was repeatedly cut off. Nanaue Sha'ark was insulted Xebel sent someone so insignificant. He listened as others laid out the common economic and environmental concerns. The conference came under attack from Ocean-Master, who easily resisted the gathered delegates and guards, but was forced into retreat by a mysterious stranger, who disappeared as suddenly as he arrived.[3]

Beluga and others watched Mera Nereus's first speech as High King and chanted her name.[5]

Powers and abilities[]

  • Atlantean attributes: Atlanteans, although human, have through scientific and sorcerous means[6] developed several abilities which allow them to live comfortably under the sea:
  • Underwater breathing: All Atlanteans are capable of surviving the aquatic atmosphere under the sea. Some accomplish this without the presence of visible gills.[4][6]
  • Temperature resilience: Resistant to low temperatures[7] and the effects of freezing,[8] although notably hindered by high temperatures.[9]
  • Durability: Dense flesh, although not invulnerable.[10][6][11]
  • Strength: Ranging from undetected levels to super strength.[8][6][12]

Appearances[]

Background information[]

  • "Beluga Boy" was an original incidental character designed by Jerome Moore, based on the art style of Phil Bourassa. The name was not official, but was used by Jerome Moore in reference to the cetacean-style tail.[13] Because the character was intended as a minor background character, further information about him, such as his age, was not pinned down in his creation,[14] but Greg Weisman did work out at least his age eventually.[1]
  • Moore also designed the older version of the character for season four. He themed the Bishop's mitre on a squid, with "tentacles" draping down over his robes.[15]
