In his apartment, Dick talked with Wally and Artemis over a video connection. His companion for the night, Bette Kane, walked in and wished him a happy birthday before heading off for work.[2]

Dick headed home after the double alien incursion that had plagued Metropolis the day before, and found Barbara waiting on the steps to his door. She wished him a happy birthday, and they spent some time together.[3]

Nightwing, Kaldur'ahm, Artemis, and Wally West met at a dockside warehouse to discuss Artemis's "death". Nightwing gave her a magic necklace to conceal her identity and she left with Kaldur on the Manta-Flyer. Nightwing commented the hard part of their mission was over, but Wally retorted that the real danger has only begun.[4]

Nightwing showed Superboy, Miss Martian, Mal and Wolf the warehouse he had arranged to temporarily house them and the other former Cave residents. Mal decided to make other arrangements.[5]

Nightwing, Superboy, Mal, Lagoon Boy and Beast Boy watched G. Gordon Godfrey's report. Mal would be staying at the warehouse after all, but Nightwing informed the others M'gann had found somewhere else.[5]

Nightwing investigated one of Robin's birdarangs he had found at the Warworld. He watched a news report in which Blue Beetle revealed himself as an ally of the Reach. In anger, Nightwing broke the birdarang.[7]

Miss Martian had brought Lagoon Boy home from his recuperation in Atlantis. As she had broken off the relationship during the trip, Lagoon Boy went straight for his room to be on his own. M'gann asked Nightwing if Conner was around, but was disappointed to learn he was out with Wendy Harris.[8]

At the warehouse, Nightwing and Zatanna worked to prove Zatanna's belief that Superboy was still alive. As their investigation continued, they recruited first Tigress, then Rocket, and finally Aquaman to join them.[9]

Background information[]

  • In the comics, Blüdhaven was the base of operations for Dick Grayson, who moved there after going independent as Nightwing. It was destroyed by the Secret Society (who dropped Chemo on it) during the Infinite Crisis.
