Bette had spent the night with a handsome boy whose name she had forgotten. She overheard him talking to someone, caught that it was his birthday and congratulated him. She didn't like that she was older than him—and promised she wasn't much older. But he already knew her name and age, and she realized why when she saw a yearbook on his table: they both went to Gotham Academy. She wanted to stay with him longer, but she had to go to work.[3]

Background information

  • In the comics, tennis star Mary Elizabeth "Bette" Kane was the first "Bat-girl," having worked alongside her aunt Kathy Kane (Batwoman). Later, following the introduction of Barbara Gordon as the new Batgirl, the character was reworked as Betty "Flamebird" Kane. Currently she is a sidekick-in-training to her cousin, Kate Kane, the new Batwoman.
  • Greg Weisman has indicated she is not active as Bat-girl or Flamebird in Young Justice.[10]
  • Young Justice marks Bette Kane's first animated appearance.
