Bernell Jones is a middle-aged Caucasian male with short black hair over the rear and sides of his head. Bernell has a horseshoe mustache, which connects to his goatee, and wears broad elliptic-rimmed glasses.

Bernell Jones was putting his daughter Cissie to bed when he was confronted by Black Spider. The assassin pulled him out the window and boasted, while Jones begged not to be killed in front of his daughter. Black Spider shrugged off the pleas, and dropped his target. Jones's fall was broken by a foam arrow shot by Green Arrow and Artemis on a nearby rooftop. Dazed but alive, Bernell Jones crawled out of the foam on the sidewalk.[2]

- In the comics, Bernell "Bowstring" Jones was a somewhat bumbling reporter for the Star City Post-Times-Herald. He died from eating bad seafood when Cissie was five.
